The integer 13 traces a long history of deceit and poor luck – Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus after the last supper, the dreaded friday where the knights templar were decreed heathens and subsequently hunted and killed, the viking myth of the 13th god of the norse heaven Asgard, Loki, murdering Balder and eventually being the 13th guest at his funeral. Despite the omnious past, Tartelet #13 is nonetheless ready to dispell once and for all the myth of unluck associated with the storied number.
Tahloula’s ’We Play House’ in a remix incarnation by Chris Lattner is at last ready for release after figuring in charts and steadily garnering hype for more than a year. Louise Marie Tüxens charming lyrics are sung on a morphing and modern house beat while a devastating organ-stab pushes the track on endlessly. A classic New York bass-line injects head-nodding and foot-tapping while small vocal snippets and fills create a layered floor-destroyer. A tune that easily could – and nearly did – stand alone, but to the luck of the listeners more is in store for them.
Emil & Chesper follow up with a radiant, heady track with robotic synthlines and dark pads. Vocal snippets and subtle changes keep the mood intact while the drums beat on relentlessly. This truly is ”The Nigerian Hustle” incarnate.
To top off the good fortune is James Braun & Ubebe’s “Neotony” – A percussion-oriented tech-house track reminiscent of Chicago, where banging toms and vintage 808 claps all merge together to form a shining synergy, while blue chords and floating strings engulfs the listener.
